5th Grade Camping Trip - May 10, 2004
The 5th and 6th grade students of Kendall Christian School took part in the
environmental education program at Biscayne National Park located on Elliott
Key. This program is a cooperative effort between the National Park Service and
participating South Florida schools. The students were transported to
Elliott Key and camped on the island for two nights. Aside from the classroom
education they were offered on the island they participated in a shoreline
clean-up and a sea grass exploration adventure. Since its establishment, the
National Park Service has been challenged to preserve and protect the natural
and cultural treasures of the nation. An important ingredient in meeting
this challenge involves instilling in our children an understanding and
appreciation of the world around them. This program has been developed to
enhance classroom instruction and has been designed to meet curriculum standards
for the State of Florida.
