    Bible - Kindergarten                                                                                      Top

    The Early Childhood Bible program is designed to build Christian character.  The Bible has a prominent place in the curriculum of our school.  Biblical principles are integrated throughout our entire program.  As children listen to stories of God's actions with His people, they begin to learn who God is, that He cares for us and that He created a beautiful world.

    Bible provides the following opportunities for the children:

    1.       Listen to Bible stories using the Bible, flannel graphs, videos and pictures.

    2.       Participate in dramatizations, finger plays and story songs.

    3.       Continue to develop Christian characteristics such as kindness, patience, sharing, forgiving others.

    4.       Memorize and recite specific prayers and participate in prayer time through prayer requests and offering prayers.

    5.       Memorize Bible verses weekly.

    6.       Attend and lead chapel.

    7.       Study Jesus’ life.

     

    Social Development  Top

    1.       Develop self-discipline through respecting rule and following directions.

    2.       Learn to work independently and accept responsibility for actions.

    3.       Participate in class discussions by taking turns, listening to others and raising hand before speaking.

    4.       Learn to work and play cooperatively with calssmates and to show concern for others feelings

    5.       Practice courtesy and manners by accepting teachers’ guidance.

    6.       Express their feelings appropriately.

    7.       Develop self-esteem and confidence through positive experiences.

     

    Reading/Language  Top

    1.       Listening to stories/books daily.

    a.       Discuss characters and context clues.

    b.       Listening for main idea.

    c.       Dramatize favorite stories.

    d.       Discuss new vocabulary words.

    2.       Participate in finger plays, dramatizations, and class discussions.

    3.       Concentrate on learning letters and their corresponding sounds through:

    a.       Practice listening for letters sounds in beginning, ending and median positions in words.

    b.       Word decoding.

    c.       Using the Open Court K curriculum.

    4.       Dictate, write and illustrate original stories/books weekly.

     

    Handwriting  Top

    1.       Develop eye/hand coordination through writing practice.

    2.       Learn to write left to right.

    3.       Learn to form upper and lower case letters and numerals.

     

    Mathematics  Top

    1.       Recognize numerals through 100.

    2.       Use manipulatives to prove and practice:

    a.       One to one correspondence.

    b.       Numeration.

    c.       Addition and subtraction.

    d.       Measurement.

    3.       Understand the concepts of time and money.

    4.       Practice mathematical problem solving.

     

    Social Studies   Top

    1.       Discuss self/family/school/community awareness.

    2.       Discover different lands and cultures through discussions, books, videos and stories.

    3.       Become aware of time and history through study of the first Thanksgiving, Columbus, and current events.

    4.       Learn about holidays and celebrations.

     

    Science  Top

    1.       Develop awareness of God’s providence in all areas of life through studies of:

    a.       Body, plants and seeds, insects, seasons, animals.

    b.       Space and planets, health and safety, weather, cooking.

    2.       Use discovery activities as well as discussions and books to explore all of the above.

     

    Music/Art  Top

    1.       Sing almost daily in the classroom and 3 times weekly in music class.

    2.       Use rhythm instruments to explore rhythms and sounds.

    3.       Listen to a variety of tapes/records with musical concepts.

    4.       Study the orchestra and the instruments included.

    5.       Participate daily in a variety of art discoveries.

    6.       Receive art instruction each week in art class.

     

    Physical Development  Top

    1.       Participate twice weekly in P.E. instruction which includes:

    a.       Body awareness and control.

    b.       Balance and coordination.

    c.       Gross motor movements such as running, hopping, skipping and jumping.

    d.       Games of skill with balls and beanbags.

    e.       Gymnastics and scooters.

     

    C omputers  Top

    1.       Beginning second semester, participate in computer class weekly.

    2.       Use the classroom computer for games and explorations.

     

    Thematic Units of Study Top

    1.       School, friends, hospital, harvest, fire safety, Pilgrims/Indians/First Thanksgiving

    2.       Solar system, library, seasons, weather, human body, restaurants

    3.       Wild west/cowboys, newspaper, space, geologists, underwater life, magnetism

    4.       Seeds/plants, insects/butterflies, spiders/webs, trees, senses, water

     

    Field Trips   Top

    1.       Public library

    2.       Farm/ranch

    3.       Science lab/geologist

    4.       Fire station

    5.       Pumpkin patch

    6.       Different “career” places(vaires yearly)

    a.       Church – minister/missionary

    b.       Court – judge

    c.       Hospital – nurse

    7.       Police department
